The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, is a branch of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This investigative organization was created about a decade ago to offer protection and enforcement regarding immigration to the United States. ICE has two divisions, one focused on immigration investigation and one focused on immigration enforcement. The Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigates immigration crime as well as other illegal activity related to U.S. security. The Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) focuses particularly on apprehending and removing illegal aliens who are also convicted criminals and are deemed to be a threat to national security.
Officials in Florida recently participated in the largest raid of illegal immigrants in U.S. history. Many of these arrests were made in the Central Florida area. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials carrying out the raid specifically targeted illegal immigrants with criminal records or warrants. Over the course of the six day operation, a total of 271 criminal aliens were arrested within the state. Six illegal immigrants arrested in Orlando are classified as sex offenders. All illegal immigrants detained in the raid are now in jail awaiting deportation back to their country of residence. ICE involved 1,900 of its agents in the nationwide operation.
