A New York City man originally from Bangladesh was arrested in mid February by Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and is being held at a detaining facility. He faces deportation back to his original country and being torn from his wife and three daughters. According to his wife, M.A.I, had legally immigrated to the United States and has been living in Queens since 1991. He eventually married and is the father of a 5-year-old and 18-month-old twins, all born in the U.S. He had applied for political asylum but his application was denied in 2010 which led to his recent arrest. Facing an immigration detainer and deportation can be devastating for a family. Get the help of a skilled New York City immigration lawyer right away if you or a loved one is in this difficult situation.
M.A.I.'s wife along with their attorney is working to get him out of detainment and returned to his family. His wife is a permanent resident and will soon be obtaining citizenship. She is hoping that ICE officials will allow her husband to stay in the U.S. a little while longer so she can sponsor him and so obtain a green card for him as soon as she is officially a citizen. M.A.I is described as a man who loves his family, the city and this country. He has been an active member of the community and a hard worker. His wife is frightened by the possibility of her husband being deported for any period of time and does not know how she and the couple's three daughters will get by without him.
