Two Miami Dade Students Facing Deportation Released

Miami-Dade, Florida - two students from Miami Dade College were recently released from the Broward County detention center this Friday. Eight days prior, the students had been detained by federal immigration officers and were facing
deportation.
On Friday, Jesus and Guillermo Reyes left the detention center at around 3:00 in the afternoon. They were greeted by Cheryl Little, executive director of the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, which is not representing the brothers.
Little said, "`We're thrilled right now because we're looking at two clients who are on the other side of the jail and not on the inside."
On November 12th, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers appeared at the Reyes' home. The officers told the boys' father that the family's time in the United States was over. While the officers detained the brothers, their father managed to leave the residence to contact his wife, younger son and also his attorney.
The family says that they were seeking asylum in the U.S. from their homeland, Venezuela. ICE had a final order of deportation for the family since 2005 after their petition for asylum had been denied.
