Lawsuit Over New Voters Proving Citizenship

The states of Georgia has filed suit seeking approval of a 2009 law that requires new voter registration applicants to prove their U.S. citizenship. It is being asked that the law be decided to not be violating Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. The law would reject any application for a voter that does not include a birth certificate, passport, naturalization document, driver's license or any document proving citizenship status.
